Wisconsin Wolves May Leave Endangered Species List

The wolves howling in the night may not receive Federal protection much longer.

The Bush administration says gray wolves in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan have recovered to the point where federal protection is no longer needed. All three states have developed wolf management plans which satisfy the U.S. Fish and WIldlife Service. Nearly 4,000 gray wolves inhabit the region. The Federal government will hold public hearings before removing the wolves from the endangered species list. The process could take up to a year.
