Overflight Results to be Presented at JLPOA Annual Meeting June 2

If you were around on October 31st of 2006, you might have noticed a plane very much like Fred Weber’s amphibian circling our lake several times. That was Alan W. Cibuzar of A.W.R.L., Inc., who, at the behest of your Board of Directors, photographed the entire lakeshore using standard and Near-Infrared photography. The purpose of his mission was to obtain information for us in order to assist us in determining, among other things, why our lake clarity has gone steadily downhill! (Having been apprised of this effort, many of you contributed your hard earned funds in order to pay for Mr. Cibuzar’s efforts!)

Mr. Cibuzar has provided a report which gives us preliminary results which indicate that the principle culprit is run-off from rain water. Because of “impervious” surfaces such as roofs and pavement, and lawns, the rain water including the excess rainwater from impervious surfaces, carries nutrients directly into the lake which cause algae to grow.

Mr. Cibuzar will speak at our Annual Meeting on Saturday, June 2, 2006 and will have a number of suggestions as to what we can do with the information developed as a result of the overflight including “ground-truthing”, a process by which those areas which are suspect are inspected by observers on the ground (us) and recommendations made.

If you want to see some photographs of our lake and specifically of your property, be sure to attend the meeting.
