Recent Water Clarity Readings a Wake Up Call for Johnson Lake Property Owners

The JLPOA has been tracking water clarity and other issues for years. The trend is not good. The following letter by Roy and Lois Hansen puts some perspective on the matter.

To Johnson Lake Property Owners:

Please read the e-mail from Barb Parisian!!  The clarity of Johnson Lake has taken a severe decline in clarity this year.  The Secchi readings for the last month and a half have been from 6 to 6.5 feet.  This compares to past years at the same time of a minimum of 8 to around 10.5 ft.  This means that we do have a very serious problem NOW!!!  We need to do everything that we can do NOW to try to reverse the trend of degradation of water quality.  Please mow less lawn up to the shoreline to allow a wider buffer zone to grow.  The natural sedge grass that does grow on our shorelines makes an excellent filter for sediments running into the lake.  I recently visited a lake near Web Lake and was astounded how clear their water was.  It made me remember how Johnson Lake looked just a few years ago.  We all need to do everything we can NOW to try to reverse the trend of the clarity.

Please come to the Johnson Lake Social at the boat landing next Saturday from 4:00 to 6:00 PM.  This will be an excellent opportunity to meet your neighbors and discuss lake concerns.  Contact me at lrhansen@sirentel.net  or at 715-866-8120 if you have any questions about the quality of the lake.
