Snowmobiling Hopes Rise with Heavy Snow Warning

Five to ten inches of new snow could be on the way for Burnett County as part of a major winter storm that's building on Super Bowl Sunday. It's just the kind of weather local sledders have been wanting since early December.

The National Weather Service says the heaviest snow is expected east of a line from Ashland to Edgewater. If the snow arrives as predicted, it could be a significant boost for local businesses which depend on snowmobiling. The vast network of trails in the area was open for just a few days before Christmas, then reopened a couple of weeks later. Recent snows have allowed the trails to remain open but more snow would help.. Significant new snow will give the trail groomers more to work with. Perhaps as important, it'll help snowmobilers get into the mood to hit the trails.

We encourage JLPOA members who get out on their sleds this week to give us a first-hand report of the conditions. Please feel free to send some digital pictures too by clicking on this link. We'd love to share your trail report.
