"Finally, A Good Snow Year," Sledders Say

If you've been wanting to give your snowmobile a workout, now may be the best time. A new report on trail conditions in Burnett County says this is the kind of winter you've been waiting for.

The February 12th report says, "The trails are looking very good. The groomers are doing a great job of hitting the trails. With the warmer temperatures predicted, the snow should finally pack into a more durable trail. Finally, a good snow year!" Local snowmobile clubs do the trail grooming. You can explore more than 300 miles of trails in Burnett County, including the Gandy Dancer, which runs along an old rail line from St. Croix Falls to Superior.

In a related development, ATVs are now banned from using the Gandy Dancer trail in Burnett County. Reports indicate that federal money spent to develop the trail could not be spent on ATV trails. The recent discovery of the restriction forced the rule change. For more on this controversy, see our web link to the Inter-County leader.

Our snowmobile trail condition report web link also includes maps and information about local cross country ski trails.
