Storm Winds Cause Scattered Damage to JLPOA Member Properties - West Side Pictures

Downed trees blew into homes, blocked roads and destroyed property around Johnson Lake on Sunday, April 18th. Fortunately, no injuries were reported and structural damage appears minor. The storm system developed in Minnesota and raced across Burnett County late Sunday afternoon. A tornado warning was in effect as a brief but extremely strong wind and marble-sized hail pelted the area along the leading edge of the system. The storm moved from West to East, with the worst damage to Johnson Lake property occurring in line from Brynilson Road on the West side of the lake to properties along Schoonover Road on the East side. We've divided our coverage to shorten your download times.

The storm took down trees on and near the Laceks' Lodge property on the West side of the lake. Brynilson Road was blocked as well. Most of the trees broke off well above the ground, but this pine fell over - roots and all - onto The Lodge. The tree poked several holes in the roof.

Jim Oeffler broke out the heavy machinery and called in the grandkids to help with the clean-up.

In the photo below, they're opening the road to the Miller home.

It pays to be handy with a chainsaw. Fortunately, most of the trees felled by the wind were away from buildings. In addition to the damage shown in these photographs, we're told that the winds took out Denny Quinn's boat and dock on the lake... as well as the Hole in the Wall Casino Sign. We found no damage at all on the North side of Johnson Lake, though the power did go out for an hour or two. If you have more storm damage to report or photos, please send them to the webmaster. Please see the East side report for more storm damage pictures and information.
