Fireworks Accident Claims Life of Yellow River Neighbor

The Fourth of July weekend was filled with sadness for one local family and many who know them. Michael Waltzing died putting on a fireworks show. He was a graduate of Webster High School and a familiar face at the Whitetails Wilderness Campground, just down the road from Johnson Lake.

Waltzing was helping his father with a fireworks display for hundreds of guests on July 3rd, when one of the shells malfunctioned, striking him in the upper body. Many Johnson Lake residents know family members and have admired their hard work and determination to build a wonderful destination in the wilderness. We've enjoyed their hospitality and their spirit.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family members during their time of sadness.
