About The Photo of the Month - November 2004

As fall turns to winter, wildlife focuses on food. Bird feeders become community centers for our feathered friends. Spend a few moments watching and you'll find them taking turns at the feeder in a kind of competition. Perhaps this is where the term "pecking order" originates.

At times, life around the feeder is a blur. The birds swoop in for a few seeds then blast off to a nearby limb while the next bird takes a turn. This little guy lands with one foot on the perch and the other on the feeder, to steady himself for a quick meal.
