Memorial Weekend Marks Hot, Windy Start to Summer

It felt more like July than late May for Johnson Lakers who opened up their cabins and enjoyed a remarkably hot Memorial Day Weekend. Good thing the lake was closer to 50 degrees than to 95.

People found all kinds of ways to enjoy the weekend. Sailing on brisk southwest winds, learning to windsurf, or whipping children around on inner tubes. The strong winds made keeping hats on a challenge, during traditional pontoon rides around the lake. On the plus side, the stiff breezes kept everyone a bit cooler. The lake saw lots of activity on Sunday, but quickly turned quiet by Monday afternoon. A late-afternoon thunderstorm dumped more than 1.5 inches of rain on the lake in about an hour, giving the woods and lawns a welcome drink after three days of hot winds.
